Making Miracles: How a national nonprofit’s shift to content marketing drives awareness and donations

Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals® raises funds and awareness for 170 member hospitals that provide 32 million treatments each year to kids across the U.S. and Canada. Donations stay local to fund critical treatments and healthcare services, pediatric medical equipment and charitable care. Since 1983, Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals has raised more than $5 billion, most of it $1 at a time through the charity’s Miracle Balloon icon. CMN Hospitals has great recognition, but in the ever-competitive market of nonprofits seeking donations, its communications team recently changed its approach to engaging with potential supporters.

In 2016, CMN Hospitals implemented a strategic shift to content marketing as a companywide focus in order to position children’s hospitals as the #1 charitable cause in North America. In the first year of this shift, the company achieved a nine percent increase in its charitable perception rate.

In this session:

  • You’ll see various examples of CMN Hospitals’ shift to content marketing as a modern and engaging method of storytelling.
  • Learn how CMN Hospitals has turned storytelling into a means for driving awareness and donations.
  • How to mine for and tell stories that resonate with audiences across various platforms.
  • How to produce content on any budget.

PRSA-OKC gives back!

PRSA-OKC is partnering with Children’s Hospital Foundation (CHF), the local CMN Hospital, for this meeting. Children treated at the Children’s Hospital emergency room often lack essential items so CHF is asking us to bring nonperishable items that they can offer to children and families who visit the E.R.

Please bring as many of the following items as possible to the meeting for local kids:

  • Canned vegetables
  • Fruit and canned meats
  • Baby food jars
  • Dried fruits
  • Beef jerky
  • Peanut butter/cheese crackers
  • Fruit snacks
  • Fruit roll ups
  • Pre-packaged snack foods (Cheez-It crackers)
  • Animal crackers
  • Small bottled water
  • Juice boxes

Children’s Hospital Foundation improves the health of children through its support of research, education and clinical care at the Oklahoma Health Center. Funding for programs is made possible through the efforts of a dedicated volunteer board, thousands of community volunteers and donors. Through endowments and direct support, CHF recruits and retains nationally and internationally recognized pediatric physician-scientists to direct research, treat patients and train medical students.

All funds raised in Oklahoma stay in Oklahoma so that families don’t have to leave the state to receive specialized care. CHF serves children in all 77 counties, including out-of-state patients. No child is ever turned away, regardless of ability to pay.
