New Pros

New Pros is the place for the fresh out of college, the slightly experienced and those who remember being new to the industry. All are welcome to join our diverse group of young people who meet once a month to connect with industry peers and hear from keynote PR professionals in all avenues of Oklahoma City. No membership in PRSA required.

Who is Welcome?

Although our group is aimed at the newly established, up-and-coming PR professionals, we invite anyone to join. Communicators of all ages: Newbs, slightly experienced, and those wanting to return to their roots in public relations, marketing, advertising, journalism and communications. Our groups is just as diverse as the industry of PR.

What will you gain from PRSA?

  1. Insight on relevant topics from keynote lunch speakers from all avenues of PR in OKC. We ask them to share a relevant perspective aimed at our group of individuals over a variety of topics. (media, research, event planning, non-profit, government)
  2. Connection to peers in a similar and constantly growing PR industry of OKC
  3. The opportunity to try PRSA OKC with little financial commitment to you (membership in PRSA is encouraged for your professional development, but not required to be involved in New Pros?

Jessie Blackwell Public Affairs Specialist. Federal Reserve Bank of Kansas City

Jessie Blackwell works in public affairs at the Oklahoma City Branch of the Federal Reserve Bank of Kansas City. She began her career at the Federal Reserve as an intern in May 2015 and began working full-time upon graduation. In her role at the Federal Reserve she manages email marketing campaigns, acts as the contact point for all web design, strategy and implementation and leads all economic education outreach initiatives in Oklahoma. Jessie graduated from Gaylord College of Journalism and Mass Communication at the University of Oklahoma with a Bachelors of Art in Journalism with an emphasis in Public Relations in December 2015.

Jessie has a strong interest in volunteerism and the Oklahoma City community. In addition to serving as the PRSA New Pros co-chair, she also serves as communications chair for the Oklahoma Jump$tart Coalition and is a United Way Emerging Leader.

Tahira started as an account coordinator with Schnake Turnbo Frank in January 2016 after interning with the firm during the previous spring semester, and was promoted to Account Executive in 2017. Since joining STF, Tahira has assisted in strategic planning, event coordination, research, media relations and inclusion & diversity services for clients in a wide variety of industries.She graduated as an Outstanding Senior from the Gaylord College of Journalism and Mass Communications at the University of Oklahoma in May 2015 with a bachelor’s degree in public relations and will be attending Oklahoma State University starting August 2017 to earn her Master of Business Administration.

In addition to serving as the chair for PRSA OKC New Professionals, Tahira also serves as the PRSA OKC diversity liaison with PRSA National. She chairs the JayMac Alumni Association for the Gaylord College of Journalism and Mass Communication at OU and serves on the advisory council for the Oklahoma Center for Community and Justice.
