Top PR Professionals Recognized at Annual Upper Case Awards

OKLAHOMA CITY (Oct. 23, 2013) – The Public Relations Society of America’s Oklahoma City chapter (PRSA-OKC) this month held its 36th annual Upper Case Awards banquet, honoring the best PR work produced in central Oklahoma over the past year.

During the banquet, hosted by KSBI-TV’s Abby Broyles and Ed Murray, 48 awards were given for various pieces of work including printed publications, writing, electronic communications, public relations campaigns and more.

The work was judged by members of the PRSA chapter in Central Michigan.  Awards were given at three levels: honorable mention, award of merit, and Upper Case. Levels were decided by points, rather than by rank compared to other entries.  Thirty organizations entered 84 pieces of work and 48 awards were given (17 honorable mentions, 14 awards of merit, 15 Upper Case and two best of show).

Best of show awards went to Anglin Public Relations for its 2013 Oklahoma City Home & Garden Show media relations campaign and to the Oklahoma State University Center for Veterinary Health Sciences for Vet Cetera in the “magazines” category.

Three professionals were recognized with special awards. Colin Strickland of The Foundation for Oklahoma City Public Schools was named the 2013 Outstanding Young Professional. Sherry Kast of Express Employment Professionals received the Paul E. Dannelley Harmony Award for her leadership in the chapter and longtime service to the profession of PR. Ted Streuli, managing editor of The Journal Record, received the Clarus Award, presented to a member of the working media who exhibits fairness in reporting.
