New Pros

New Pros is the place for the fresh out of college, the slightly experienced and those who remember being new to the industry. All are welcome to join our diverse group of young people who meet regularly to connect with industry peers and hear from keynote PR professionals in all avenues of Oklahoma City. No membership in PRSA required.

Who is Welcome?

Although our group is aimed at the newly established, up-and-coming PR professionals, we invite anyone to join. Communicators of all ages: Newbs, slightly experienced, and those wanting to return to their roots in public relations, marketing, advertising, journalism and communications. Our groups is just as diverse as the industry of PR.

What will you gain from PRSA?

  1. Insight on relevant topics from keynote lunch speakers from all avenues of PR in OKC. We ask them to share a relevant perspective aimed at our group of individuals over a variety of topics. (media, research, event planning, non-profit, government)
  2. Connection to peers in a similar and constantly growing PR industry of OKC
  3. The opportunity to try PRSA OKC with little financial commitment to you (membership in PRSA is encouraged for your professional development, but not required to be involved in New Pros)

Meet the Committee

Jessie Blackwell Public Affairs Specialist, Federal Reserve Bank of Kansas City, Oklahoma City Branch


Jessie Blackwell works in public affairs at the Oklahoma City Branch of the Federal Reserve Bank of Kansas City. In her role, she coordinates communications, marketing and web projects for the Branch and is the lead on economic education efforts in Oklahoma. She began her career at the Federal Reserve as an intern in May 2015 and began working full-time upon graduation. Jessie graduated from Gaylord College of Journalism and Mass Communication at the University of Oklahoma with a Bachelor of Arts in journalism with an emphasis in public relations in December 2015.

Jessie has a strong interest in volunteerism and the Oklahoma City community. In addition to serving as a New Pros chair for the Oklahoma City chapter of Public Relations Society of America, she is the communications chair for the Oklahoma Jump$tart Coalition and a board member of the JayMac Alumni Association at Gaylord College. She also serves on advisory councils for Emerson High School’s Entrepreneurship Academy and the Boys and Girls Club’s Pathways program. In 2017, Jessie was named the Outstanding Young Professional for the Oklahoma City Chapter of PRSA and the Member of the Year for the Oklahoma Jump$tart Coalition. 



Laura Beth Breaux

Department Analyst, Love's Travel Stops


Laura Beth Breaux works as the Information Technology Department Analyst at Love's Travel Stops. She took on this role in early 2018 after serving as Director of Operations at the Edmond Chamber of Commerce. Laura Beth moved to Oklahoma in 2015 after graduating from the University of Texas at Austin with a degree in Public Relations. Her favorite aspect of the PR industry is planning events and she enjoys helping with community functions and volunteering with local organizations. She serves on the Edmond Young Professionals Steering Committee as well as the  Downtown Edmond Arts Festival committee.
